Good question blog title! I've been a bit absent since moving up to Seattle to start my contract at Bungie. The REACH project page is now bustling with sweet images and info about the project I'm working on and I think you should go look. Go. Don't worry, I'll wait. Seriously, I'll be here when you get back. Afterall, I'm just a blog post.

Well, I wish I could show you some of the stuff I'm doing, but unfortunately I can't yet. I think soon though. When I know, you'll know.

In the meantime, since my journey at Bungie may come to a close in June, I'm going to be updating my reel yet again, so stay tuned for new animation goodness. Fun stuff.

Good News Everyone!

First of all, my lovely wife and I welcomed our first child, Quinn Zachary into the world on June 22nd.

Second, and more animation related, I have accepted a contract animation position at Bungie Studios working on Halo: Reach. We will be packing up and heading north at the end of the month because I am starting work on August 3rd.

Needless to say it is a very exciting time in my life. I'll try and keep you posted.

Flying Bunnies

Hello. So, it isn't exactly the most riveting piece of animation I've ever done, but it's out in the world so I thought I'd show it to you. In this promo for MySims Racing, there is a flying bunny that follows around Troy, the producer that I had the opportunity to rig and animate. That's right, yours truly did that, and believe it or not, he's actually swaying slightly side to side with some minor offsetting that you can't see at all. Feel free to not watch the whole thing, or any of it for that matter. My feelings aren't going to be hurt. Have a lovely day!

Tales of Monkey Island

So a month or so back, I had the pleasure of working for Telltale Games on some animations for the first episode in the much anticipated return of the Monkey Island series called Tales of Monkey Island. It was a lot of fun to work on and I'm hoping to help out again in the following episodes. I'll let you know if and when that happens. Thanks for stopping by!

Good news everyone! I was able to procure a 'marketing artist' position at EA. What is a marketing artist? Good question. I'm not entirely sure myself but I know I'll get to do a little animation which is what really matters. Special thanks to Rich for the referral. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Well, GDC, in terms of immediate work opportunities is probably a bust. However, while at GDC I received an intriguing phone call about a position that could be a great little opportunity. I should know more tomorrow and I'll be sure to inform the two of you following this blog what has come of it.

Besides that, it was great to hang out with the Gaijin Games guys during the week. I also got to meet some very interesting people throughout the industry and hopefully made some great connections for the future. Special thanks to Erin for driving us up there on Friday and for hanging out. That girl knows how to gather swag. Til next time.

The curse of dog ownership is that you usually have to watch them go. Sometimes you get lucky and your furry companions live well into their teens. Sometimes though, there little lives are cut tragically short. Such is the case with little Rooibos. He was just a pup, but he was a part of the family and he will be missed.

A Night with Richard Williams

Tonight was fun. My good friend Will and I headed up to SF (a rarity for me) to see a talk from one of animations greatest, Richard Williams. For those of you who don't know him, he was the animation director on "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", as well as the author of the animator's must have, "The Animator's Survival Kit". He has recently come out with "The Animator's Survival Kit, Animated" which is pretty much what he was there to promote.

We were flashing some kind of gang signs before the show. We roll hard? Too much Saints Row 2 I guess.

He did some Q and A and we watched some clips from his DVD set which was pretty sweet. Despite poor audio, which was definitely not well setup, it was a good event.

Afterward, Will and I waited in a long line to get Mr. Williams autograph.

How best to redesign the transportation system in this country is a conversation I've had more than once. It seems like time and again, the conversation always ends at 'Pods'. Because come on, when you think about the future, you know you think about Pods. Well, Zach was often a participant in these conversations and a strong pod advocate. Since recently starting a new job with a long commute the transportation issue weighed heavily on his mind. After sharing with each other how annoying our daily travels were, Zach began to tell a few of us about his NEW pod idea. It was his way to help save the environment, beautify the landscape, and get people in shape all at once. By utilizing a raised pod transportation system that ran partially off of human energy, Zach thought we could reduce emissions, improve health, eliminate the need for roads, thus letting nature take back the land and bringing happiness to all of God's creatures. The idea was not lost on us, but we still had to laugh and argue it's possible flaws, but Zach was pretty determined it would work. I later stumbled across an article bringing Zach's vision eerily close to reality so I sent it off to him.

Hard to argue with that. The animals definitely look happy. One of these days I'll be riding in the pods, peddling off that extra weight, looking down upon all of the happy creatures and remember Zach's silly, yet brilliant idea.

Yesterday a good friend of mine passed away. It was sudden and unexpected and I'm still reeling from the news. Zach was a wonderful person, and as you'll hear from anyone who knew him, loved and lived life more than most. Knowing him has truly made me a better person and I will miss him deeply. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with this tragedy.

Wow. Long time no post. I've had quite the blog sabbatical but I think it's time to get some regularity on this thing. I started working on a new lip sync which I posted the audio for a few posts ago. I have a first pass on the lip sync and I'm basically just blocking in the acting. I definitely need to spice up the anim because it's pretty boring thus far. We'll see where it goes. Oh, also, the second girl has no motion yet. She's just a prop until I finish the first girls animation. Enjoy.

I've finally started working on the new lip sync. Vacation sure messed up my workflow. But I did get to see this.

It tried to eat Kim.

I haven't gotten more than a pose in there but I've got the idea in mind and I'm ready to shoot some ref, so it shouldn't be long before a blocking pass is done. I hope.

Wall-E = Fantastic

Since this is an animation blog of sorts, I thought I better comment on how great I thought Wall-E was.

Extremely Great.

It's pretty much the best love story I've seen in quite some time, and I've seen my fair share of Rom Coms as some of you may know. The movie was funny, sad, adorable, and exciting. If you haven't seen it, see it. If you didn't like it, you're wrong.

The short "Presto" was also really quite awesome. It was equal parts Warner Bros. and Pixar which is a combination I would like to see more of.

That is all. I'm going to start on my next lip sync very soon so hopefully I'll have something to post later.
